Buy Local Comparison

I wanted to share something I found for sale online today.  I noticed this chair because it reminds me so much of one I included in a recent blog post.

I loved this chair when I first blogged about it and I still love the looks of it.  

If you are in the market for a vintage cane, tufted velvet chair PLEASE save yourself $530 + $75 in shipping by buying the local chair listed on Craigslist if it's still available. The local CL ad was posted on February 14th and is still up but I don't know if it's still for sale (a risk I take with sharing all ads).  

This is just a friendly reminder to shop around and look locally before you splurge on items that might be available for a lot less in your local area.

Here are my latest picks from the Seattle CL ads.

I really like this cabinet and I think it would make a great buffet table.

This magazine rack has a cool shape to it. I like that it's a table and a magazine rack and I think it would look cool painted. With a $10 price tag, I think it's a bargain but then again I try to only post bargains.

This shoe rack seems like a fun alternative to the usual way of storing shoes. Maybe you could put it by the front door so guests could put their shoes on it as well.

Classic 1940's oak and vinyl armchair, good bones, ten bucks. Nice enough as-is, but could definitely stand to be reupholstered.

Nerd footnote: Ever seen Paradise Lost, the 1994 HBO documentary about the Arkansas child murders? This chair is exactly the same as those used by the jurors in the courtroom scene. (I'm completely certain of this- I hit pause and compared.)

Nice wood amoire, from the 70s, one owner, for clothing and other items, with a center space and drawers above and below. Absolutely clean and no cracks, missing pieces, or other problems. Works perfect & looks perfect. I just don't have room for it. You move it. You'll love it! 

I quite like this chair.  I would consider getting it myself if I was in the area.

We have one side chair for you. It has caned sides and the upholstery is what I would call mauve.... dusty muted rose ? :) The chair is great... could be reupholstered in a REALLY fun fabric for something bold !~

Sunday's Finds

While many others are watching the Super Bowl, I am busy looking for local bargains.  Here are the latest listings from CL that I enjoy.  Hopefully the items will still be available after the Superbowl.

This post lists a few items for free that look pretty good.

Full length mirror has a busted leg which would need some attention to get it looking right, but it works just fine as is. just tilts a little....

Chest of drawers/dresser is good for storage in a basement. That's what we used it for.

Office chair has some paint splatter on it, but is solid and has nice curves.

The bentwood chairs are black, lightweight and good for extra chairs around the dinner table.

I have a few items that could use a good steaming.  This one seems like a good deal and in a good location for pick up:

I've had this garment steamer for less than a year. Works fabulously ... steam starts coming out soon after I hit the power button, and does a terrific job of getting wrinkles out of our clothes. A bit easier to use than an iron. Problem for me is that this takes up some floor space in our already cramped bedroom and I don't use it that much except to hang clothes on.

When I was living in Seattle and doing yoga on a regular basis I wanted a Lululemon yoga mat very badly but they are quite expensive and I never got around to actually buying one.  This seller has listed a Lululemon mat for a good deal that I would snatch up if I was in Seattle.

[Living Room Makeover] Wednesday's Finds

If I was looking to completely makeover my living room these are some of the items I might buy from current CL postings.  At an even $190 total (less if you have good bargaining skills or more time to look around) I think that's a good deal for a whole room makeover.

I like how the iron side table has a space underneath to hold books.  I realize the tables don't really do together but I would use one of them to hold a television and they were the  best options from CL over the past few days.  And I could go either way on whether or not to include the roman stool.  

I would add this magazine rack if I thought I needed it and maybe a bookshelf like this.  And of course some colorful pillows and curtains or paint on the walls to liven things up.
